I'm surprised there isn't a thread about this already! (But if there is... OOPS).

I've recently gotten back into this franchise when I found my old copy of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. Granted I haven't played any of the games made more recently than 2006 (the most recently made one I own is the '360 remake, haha), but I definitely still have a soft spot for it. It's the franchise I definitely own the most games of.

Sonic Games I own/have played:
-Sonic Mega Collection + (PS2, bearing in mind this has lots of games on it)
-Sonic Gems Collection (PS2, also a collection of lots of games)
-Sonic Advance (GBA)
-Sonic Battle (GBA)
-Sonic Heroes (GC, actually my first Sonic game)
-Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (GC)
-Shadow The Hedgehog (GC)
-Sonic Rush (DS, borrowed a friend's copy for a little while)
-Sonic Riders (GC, same scenario as above)
-Sonic The Hedgehog 360 (Xbox 360)

Yeah, I was -really- into this series from the ages of 9 or 10 until I was 12.
What are your thoughts on the Sonic series?

I loved the old games on the Genesis.

I didn't buy another Sega system after that. Never really checked in with Sonic much after that. I think my sister bot Adventure 2, and I played some of that, but really it's just not a series I followed past the initial series of games.

You're lucky you stopped when you did, everything really went downhill after '06. Sonic Riders was more or less the last straw for me, when they bought out even more pointless side characters. The original games were good though, I have some of what were previously really rare games on the Mega and Gems collections.

I'm still very fond of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, even if it is awful. Shadow and Rouge, although it could be said they more or less started the whole trend with pointless characters, were two of my favourites when I initially got into the Sonic series, and I still like them. I'm really enamored by the Chao raising system in SA2:B, too.

I'd suggest you play a couple of the games between 2000 and 2006 if you have the time and means to, some are actually half decent.

Heh. Well, I probably stopped with the series at least a decade before '06.

I remember my sister getting a lot out of Adventure 2 and that Chao thing in particular. Did kind of look fun in a way, I suppose.

It's oddly addictive. Kind of makes up for the fact the actual game itself has very few redeeming features. I probably spend more time in the Chao garden experimenting with what varieties I can raise than I do playing the actual in-game levels.

I might try Shadow The Hedgehog again in a minute, I remember that being kind of fun. Although my judgement may have been skewed by the fact I last played it in '04 or '05, when I had a massive Shadow obsession. . .
Nonetheless, hedgehogs with guns killing aliens is pretty badass.

Heh. I don't remember what little I played of the actual levels being that terrible. I guess I didn't experience it fully though.

The levels could be pretty fun - I especially liked the treasure hunting sections with Knuckles and Rouge, it's just that the game was so. . . glitchy. I just spent ten minutes trying to beat a boss that shouldn't have taken more than five, because Sonic would homing attack himself into a huge pit of quick sand whenever I pressed the "jump" button on the enemy's back.

The storyline was alright, but there was very little character depth - probably not helped by the atrocious voice acting. It's nice for a bit of fun if you're in a patient mood, though.

I see. Probably would have noticed if I had played it more.
