I've actually never even heard of this anime, which kind of surprises me, as most titles I've at least heard mentioned from time to time.

I obviously can't give you a personal opinion onit then, but if you just want to read someone's opinion, Anime News Network did review the first two volumes. Perhaps that will help.

Yes it does. The person reviewing it in the links you sent me is a little over critical I think.

Well, it is a critic... Critiquing things is kinda their job.

Oh I know that but sometimes they go over board. The comments about the art work kind of rubed me the wrong way because bad art doenst mean that the anime it self is bad. The creators wanted it to look that way and thus it is. It may look strange but it is a matter of personal opinion and realy no reason not to like the show. Weak characterisation is another thing and could be a reason to stay away but if the story is good I think that is all that matters.

Bad art can definitely be a distraction that hinders the enjoyment of a show.

And it's not always because the creators want it that way that art will slip. Sometimes the productions doesn't have much money so they have to take shortcuts.

It's rare that the animation itself will take me out of an anime and I do agree that other aspects are more important, but I do think it's a legitimate thing to criticize.

Well sure it is a ligitimate thing to critizise but it seemed that it was focused on more then other aspects of the show thats all. I will admit that at first the artwork of Gankutsuo *example in my sig* kind of baffled me for the first two episodes but once the storyline started to develope I complety forgot about it and realized that it really fit with the story. I see your point about the shortcuts though, that does happen and it is unfortunet.

Well, both those reviews are from two different people and both of them mention flaws in artistry and noticeable shortcuts.

That said, I really don't hold much value in Anime News Network's review team. I've loved shows they've all hated before.

Theron Martin, the reviewer in the firs link I posted before reviewed some of Gankutsou by the way. He spent about as much time on the art in that one:

Ah I see.

I dont usualy read their stuff. When I'm looking for reviews I usualy go to the mags that I read.

I am very happy that you posted that link. Yay positive review for Gankutsou! At least they know a master piece when they see one Cool

Their reviews can be interesting to read. I just don't value their opinions too much. And I don't get any magazines, so I have to rely on ANN for news as it is.

I should probably watch Gankutsou at some point. A lot of people seem to echo that positive opinion of it.

I see, well I dont subcribe to any of the mags I read I just pick them up when I find them.

My garantee that you will not be disapointed still stands. If you walk away from Gankutsuo unstatisfied I'll....name anything and I'll do it, lol. Even if you have never read or ever even heard of The Count of Monte Cristo you will fall in love with the brilliance of the story and how it is executed.
