The darkness had been swift. Doomsayers had foretold it but few had listened to any warnings, wether they came from ancient times or the present. Those who died first had been the lucky ones, the chaos of what followed would never touch them.

Moira stood alone on the rooftop of one of the few stable buildings left in her district. The sun burned red behind the dark dust clouds. She could see smoke from the perpetual fires in the distance. She held in her hands an old rifle, in these times there was no telling who was friend or foe. A gust of wind sent her pale hair into her face and grey eyes.

On the shattered concrete of the former streets, Markus walked, concealed by his sand-coloured cloak. The thick strands of his waist-length silver hair were visible, and the glow from his green eyes.

Moira turned from the devastated view and made her way down from the rooftop. Slinging the rifle over her shoulder she climbed down the fire escape, avioding the missing steps that cold send her falling through the dust filled air.
