In the mother forum, Toutaku introduced (or reintroduced) us to Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw. He's a witty game critic who also makes old-school adventure games and has even wrote his own book.

Well, it's two games. And they're indie games, so that's not too surprising.
Not the first time he's reviewed independently made games like this. Probably not a amusing as his reviews of mainstream titles, but then again, there's probably less to dig into.
But yeah, Yahtzee's an amusing gaming humorist. God way to spend five minutes every wednesday. _________________

Yeah, I just realized that and was about to correct it when my sister used the home phone to call her friends, disrupting the connection.
Oh, so they're indie games.
And yep, its the best 5 minutes any person can waste in my opinion. |

I love how adamant he is not to review Starcraft 2, going so far as to pull another old PS2 game out... _________________

Well, that's Yahtzee for ya. If you ask me, it was a pretty good choice. I wonder what game he's going to review next week so as to avoid all the new stuff. |

he gave me the impression that Starcraft is the only new game he's avoiding, and that he did this only because there aren't many other new games out.
Maybe something else will be out next week. _________________

Ah, I see. Considering its Australia, there probably wasn't many games he could review besides Starcraft II then.
Perhaps, but you'll never know. |

Yep. Australian release dates are usually late. _________________

This week, Yahtzee reviews Split/Second: Velocity.

Having seen some gameplay vids (courtesy of the G4 channel), I can't believe it was made by Disney. When the hell did they start making a game that looks so badass? Oh well...
Yahtzee seemed to rip it up pretty good, but I was really looking forward to seeing its potential, oh well. Anyone else have opinions about it? |

Looks like it's gotten good reviews from mainstream reviewers, by in large.
I found Yahtzee's review pretty hilarious though. I love his rip on the title and the completely pointless "/" in it. That was great. As was his bit about what it would take to actually recreate the game. _________________

But the fact that it was made by Disney makes me want to regret all my positive thoughts about it.
It was pretty hilarious, I just love how he talks about he about he blew up his opponent, only to run smack into a wall. And that's so true, who the hell has enough money to buy an entire metropolis and thousands of tons of explosives for every racer to use? |

Granted I haven't played many games made by Disney, but I wouldn't base the sill of their development teams on products made by entirely different parts of the corporation. It's a massive corporation; there are talented people working there.
That's not to defend this game. I've never played it and cant' vouch for it. It does rather sound like what Yahtzee's saying, an attempt to pander to the crowd who loves over-indulgent flashiness, fast cars and explosions. As that sort of stuff does nothing for me, I doubt I'd be very interested. _________________

I suppose, but Disney? Really?
Yeah, I know you're not defending the game. As for what Yahtzee said, he did forget to blast the points system, which I saw at the end of each gameplay video. I'm willing to bet that's for buying useless shit or something. |
