It never occurred to me that Disgaea character portraits are perfect for visual novel graphic material. It did occur to Nippon Ichi Software though, and created Disgaea Infinite, the Disgaea visual novel.

The plot is that a Prinny acquires the "Time Transfer Watch" which allows him to travel through time. Soon after, he witnesses an explosion in Laharl's room, and Laharl declares it an assassination (he insists he had been assassinated despite not dying). Flonne suspects Etna, but Laharl knows that if she did it she would have gloated about in the seconds before noticing he wasn't dead, and Etna accuses Flonne because she is an assassin, but Laharl says she's too dumb to kill anyone successfully. So he blames the Prinnies and stops all pay for them (and begins to consider "minus salary", where the Prinnies pay him to keep their employment). The main Prinny must discover the real assassin before Laharl can begin his punishments with the power of the Time Transfer Watch.

I think I actually have a copy of this game somewhere.

Never really played much of it though. Seemed cute, just was never high priority to me. I should really give it a try some time.
