Then I guess I like some metal.
Just probably not much of anything from the genre in the last 20+ years. _________________

Well, you seemed to enjoy Turisas.
Try a few soft-singing metal bands from today. _________________

Yeah, I seem to remember kind of liking them in pieces.
Don't really know many. _________________

The majority of Turisas is good.
Trivium perhaps?
Epica and Kamelot, always. _________________

What I like about metal, and screaming, is that it is one of the only genres both pushing the skill behind the instruments to new heights, and isn't copying guaranteed 'selling points'
Other bands for you to check out:
Angtoria
System of a Down
Galneryus
Sonata Arctica
Just a few that have amazing musicians, and at least some soft vocals. _________________

Lyrical content is one of the most important components to music for me. Screamed vocals take that away from me almost entirely. I don't particularly care if they sing pretty, but I like to understand what they're singing. The poetry of it and such (not that I don't appreciate instrumentality, because I do).
That said, I listed to a song each from Trivium and Kamelot and found myself pleasantly surprised. I actually may download some of them.
I'll be listening to these others, I suppose. _________________

Awesomeness.
The main singer from Trivium is actually Japanese, but raised in the US, which explains why he has the accent, yet writes about Japanese history in a few of his songs. _________________

The Trivium guy didn't bug me so much. The guy from Galneryus was a little too "Engrish"-y on the other hand.
I liked the other three quite a bit though. Kinda funny since I've listened to some of System of a Down better known stuff before and kind of written it off.
I'm convinced now. There's good metal out there. It's not all incoherent screaming. _________________
