Watched 16, 17, and also 18 since I saw it was out as well.

16 and 17 were both really cute. I love Hibiki's mother. She's really cute (though Kanade's mom is also cute). It was good seeing her get an episode

18 was a little more interesting in terms of plot, even if it did do a rather lot of teasing and I kind of did hope for something more important to be revealed. It kind of did make me think more that Cure Muse is somehow Ako despite the different size. I'll be curioust to see some of the questions finally get answered.

Episode 18 was fun. I liked Kanade's head in Hibiki's net. That was cute.

The end was most interesting, especially the teaser about the fourth Pretty Cure arriving soon.

I watched my recordings of episodes 19, 20, 21 very quickly. It was all very amazing.

Episode 19 had Hummy kidnapped and Seiren replaces her. Kanade sees through it immediately, but while arguing over what to do with Seiren, Seiren lures Hibiki and Kanade into a cunning trap designed to separate them and prevent them from transforming. Can Cure Muse save them?

Episode 20: Seiren comes to Hummy, saying that Mephisto threw her out of Minorland and wants to be Hummy's friend. Hummy, being an idiot, immediately trusts her. Hibiki and Kanade try to stop Seiren.

Episode 21: Hummy, the Notes, and the Fairy Tones are captured and Seiren prepares for the Sorrowful Melody. Hibiki and Kanade are helpless without the Fairy Tones, and can only stand by while the world plunges into despair. It will take a miracle to save them...

This was some of the most amazing things I have seen this year. It is the sort of storytelling that I strive for. I was ready to cry in episode 21.

I need to start watching this again. Especially when you make it sound so good.

I'll try and watch it tonight.

I have finally watched these episodes of Precure (and one more).

I actually watched episode 19 a few days ago. I was going to watch the others then, but I got distracted by other things. This episode was good, but not really that different from anything we had seen before. Just another kind of poorly thought out plan that was destined to fail for a number of reasons.

Which is why things were so much more shocking when I returned to the show today for episode 20. This was not just another dumb plan. Tis was something legitimately wicked. It was actually kind of hard to watch Hummy knowing she was just being cruelly tricked. The extremity of this plan compared to the others is kind of jarring This was, I believe the first time Seiren ignored the PreCure near entirely and just focused on tricking Hummy, exploiting their deep bond. Which is why it was no surprise that this is the first time the bad guys won.

Going into episode 21, I remembered your comments and I didn't think for an instant this show could possibly make me cry. It didn't exactly, but despite myself I did tear up in the middle. Wonderfully written, wonderfully acted, wonderfully directed displays of very deep emotion. This episode was a stunning delight in every way. Mephisto is a silly main villain, but he can be a legitimately evil threat, this further proved to me. But really it was just all Seiren. Seiren and Hummy. Beautiful.

Episode 22 continued where 21 left off beautifully by properly introducing us to the new Cure Beat. I love how they wrote this. The layers of emotions surrounding Seiren's character is just wonderfully complex for what is supposed to be a show for younger girls. But the actions was the stand out bit here. Seeing Cure Beat's transformation sequence made me cheer a little. Her movements were so awesome in the fight and then her finisher, was just cool.

My only concerns are that Seiren/Cure Beat is starting to take over a little much. These episodes made her easily my favorite character in this series, with Hibiki and Kanade rapidly falling behind. I also still just really want my answers when it comes to Cure Muse...

I don't blame you. Very entertaining little story arc there. Worth a rewatch.

Episode 22. Seiren/Ellen is struggling to come to terms with her new life. Fun.

Episode 23. Ellen meets a little boy named Mamoru who has run away from his father because the father is leaving and Mamoru does not want to be alone. Hibiki and Kanade tell Mamoru to make up with his father, but Ellen encourages Mamoru to hate his father and to learn not to rely on love. This episode was interesting in showing how warped Ellen is from Mephisto's philosophies. Can she learn to be friendly like Hibiki and Kanade?

I was going to talk about episode 24 when Phil watched episode 23, but I decided to talk about it now.

Ellen is staying somewhere unidentified, and Hibiki and Kanade sneak into her house, undress her, and get her ready for the ocean. Ellen is afraid of making an outburst like in the last episode. Hummy points out that Ellen refuses to call Kanade and Hibiki by name because she still has trouble accepting them as friends (or rather, she worries that they don't accept her as a friend yet). They enter the Sand Art Contest, and make a sand Hummy. Trio the Minor shows up and turn Sand Hummy into a Negatone to ruin everyone's day.

Still focusing on Ellen mostly to show what kind of growth she needs.

The new opening, "La La La Suite PreCure Unlimited Ver.", has the same melody as the last with slightly different instruments and new lyrics. The new ending, "Kibou Rainbow", is completely new though.

Seiren's human form's name is perplexing because エレン could be the Japanese name "Eren" or the English name "Ellen". The opening unfortunately doesn't spell it in Roman letters even though she and Cure Beat are in it.

I really do need to watch both 23 and 24.

I love all these Ellen focused episodes.

I finally got around to episode 25.

Summer festival! Ellen is happy to go, but Hibiki and Kanade scare her with the traditional ghost props. Hummy confirms Seiren has always been scared of ghosts. Has Kanade and Hibiki look for where Ellen ran to, Ellen runs into Masamune Ouji, who she remembers when she was the songstress of Minorland. He comforts her, saying her friends just wanted to have fun, not bully her. But then two ghost figures startle her, holding signs that call her "Crying Beat" and "Failed PreCure". Hurt, Ellen runs away again, and Bassdru tells Seiren that she can still be Minorland's songstress.

Another cute episode. Hibiki and Kanade say they like when Ellen is scared, but happy Ellen is even better. Hummy's claim that Seiren couldn't go to the toilets at night without Hummy's assistance was funny, as well as Ellen being frightened by ghosts that wouldn't scare 5-year-old children.
