I am rather interested in the up-coming Green Lantern film, given that's one of my favorite DC titles. It's too bad Green Lantern wasn't given as much exposure as Batman and Superman—there's only Justice League and one animated movie to really show audiences who don't read the series what Green Lantern is about. Well, hopefully the new movie can get some more interest in that series going. I hope the film is good too.

Heh. If the movie is good it should spur interest in the character. If not, it won't.

I only recognize a few involved names so I can't really speculate as to anything about the quality of the film. My guess is that it won't be the next Dark Knight, but it could still be good.

I personally don't know to much about the character besides his basic powers. They do seem like some of the cooler superhero powers though, and seem like they would allow some rather impressive special effects.

If the trailer is anything to go by (the one I saw at least), they are not overtly revealing the villain except to fans who already know what the villain looks like. I like that.

Ah, I see. That probably is a good way to do it.

Possible sceen for this movie: Hey Green Lanturn! Banana peel! *throw, Green Lanturn collapses utterly powerless*

Sorry but I just find it hillarious that this superheros weakness is or was at one time the color yellow. I mean come on. Super hero indeed Rolling Eyes Super Villian dressed all in Yellow...were screwed.

Green Lanterns can't use powers on yellow things; yellow isn't a Green Lantern depowering item. One could still punch someone dressed in yellow, or pick up a normal firearm and shoot him.

I suppose when you put it that way it makes some sense but still...I dont know the Green Lantern just isnt a superhero that I think would make a good movie. But then again they made one of the Green Hornet...yeah that wasnt good either. These heroes are not movie matterial.

I disagree entirely. The Green Lantern, from what I know of the character, has some rather interesting powers that could easily make for a visually impressive film. Admittedly, I don't know much of the character's origin beyond some guy finds some sort of ring or something, it seems like the sort of thing where a good director could really get something out of it (that said, I see no evidence the guy they have helming this film is a good director, which is why I'm a little skeptical).

And how can you say The Green Hornet wasn't good? The movie isn't out until friday and as far as I can see there are no or few advance reviews. . You couldn't have actually seen it to form a legitimate opinion of it.

And it's not like the characters have anything in common besides being green anyway...

Martin Campbell directed some James Bond films that seem to have been popular, but generally he is one of those people I have never heard of.

Yeah, he did some good things for the Bond series, made a few other decent films, but he's hardly what I'd call a visionary. He's made some pretty poor films too.

He's that sort of unexciting director her me who doesn't effect my expectations one way or the other.

Ah well my mistake, but the commercials are enough to convince me that its bad. The connection between the two is that they are horrible. I have seen the original TV show of the Green Hornet and if the movie is anything like this I shall causion people to stay the hell away from it. Its a bad name, and a shitty idea for a Superhero. I would not entrust my life to some rich kid who calls him self the Green Hornet. I would'nt like to place my life in the hands of someone called the Green Lanturn either. Batman, Super man, Spider Man any of them sound like they could kick his ass and probebly would. The Green Hornet too.

You can't always judge movies by their trailers. That said, Green Hornet doesn't look absolutely horrible to me (I Kind of like Seth Rogen). I also don't think the TV show from over 40 years ago has much bearing on the modern iteration (It's like someone judging The Dark Knight based on the old Adam West Batman show just because they're both about Batman). Until I hear opinions of people who have actually seen the film, I'm not going to make any judgements about the overall quality.

I suppose their names aren't the most awesome. Nothing really fierce about a lantern... But that's a small issue to me.

A good point but just the same I dont think I will be going to see it.

I like a Super Hero to have a good name. Somthing that sounds cool and has an air of strength when you say it. The Green Lantern...just doesnt have it.

I might. I'll have to hear more. Actually looking, the very few pre-release reviews out are fairly positive.

I'm not sure they ever have really amazing names. If you really think about it, is Batman really that great a name? Is there anything creative about a name like Superman?

The name "Superman" was meant as a translation of the German word Übermensch, so I think that is where the "-man" idea came from. I think "the Shadow" was a better name than most of those guys, but the name isn't that important to me.
