I was reading The Ghastlycrumb Tinies by Edward Gorey just now and, after having one of my 3am sleep-deprived epiphanies, I'm fully convinced that the person killing all the children is one of those psychotic fan post-thneed era Once-lers. Don't these hands look a bit familiar?

Oh.

Oh.

And let's not forget arguably the most obvious point.

It all makes sense now!

I love Edward Gorey.

Oh, that scamp. Always sneaking off and killing people in brutal ways, so rambunctious.

But yes, Edward Gorey's work is rather marvelous. I was delighted when I found out he illustrated Old Possum's Book Of Practical Cats, one of my favourite books when I was younger which my mother bought for me because I liked the CATS musical.

I should look for that.

I like the announced Japanese title of the film, 『ロラックスおじさんの秘密の種』 Lorax Oji-San no Himitsu no Tane, roughly meaning "The Secret Seed of Old Man Lorax".

Goodness that's brilliant. I refuse to refer to this film as anything else now. It's often fun to see how titles get translated into other languages.
I wonder where they got the idea that The Lorax is an old man from. It must be the moustache.

Also, I just realised I talk way too much about The Once-ler, consequentially neglecting the other brilliant characters in this film. Like Aloysius O'Hare. I wonder why there's no fandom for Aloysius O'Hare. There should be. Just look at him.

I had only read about him, so it's interesting to see how O'Hare looks. I was expecting a mustache-twirling villain in a black cloak.

Most foreign titles are just Lorax or translations of The Lorax. I like the Italian title: Lorax: Il Guardiano della Foresta. The screenshot used is perfect.

O'Hare's appearance surprised me at first, too. It looked like his body had got mixed up with The Once-ler's since I expected him to be more of a lanky villainous figure, especially with his voice. But then I realised no one should ever have O'Hare's body ever, as this picture demonstrates.

That screenshot on the wiki page you sent me is beautiful.

Did you hear?
The entire Lorax fandom is up in arms at the moment because Ed Helms, the voice actor of The Once-ler, made fun of the Once-ler fandom in his livestream yesterday, saying that he "doesn't condone sexual fantasies about The Once-ler" (which voice actor would?) and that Oncest (shipping Once-lerXOnce-ler) is creepy. I watched it and personally I think everyone's overreacting, the guy's a comedian so I hardly think he was serious about half the stuff he said, and even if he was disturbed by the fandom then he responded nicely.
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/22120430 is the link to the recorded stream, what do you think?

All the questions about The Lorax are at these points in the video:
7:20 [Hearing him say "Oncest" over and over again made me giggle]

8:30 [Not a question, but it made me giggle]

19:50

32:00

34:06 [Not about Oncest or the fandom, but still an interesting Lorax question nonetheless]

39:00 [Ouch, this is a big one]

40:28 [When asked to sing a line from "How Bad Can I Be?" or "Biggering"]

43:55 [He actually makes fun a little, which made me happy]

45:05 [About Betty White, fellow Lorax voice actress, shipping Once-lerXNorma]

I didn't know there were that many Once-ler fans in the first place.

There's not as many as there are for something like MLP or Adventure Time, but there's still certainly a sizable cult following on tumblr.

So I was browsing the Lorax tag on tumblr, as I do with 90% of my free time now, and I just saw this. The DVD release date. I think I might scream.

And cry.

Or something.

Or maybe I'll just go mope and eat more marshmallows. I don't know if I can make it, it's so far away.

So this is reaching Europe, having seen a poster in France and just catching an advert on television. I'll be gone before it comes to cinemas though.

I watched the Japanese dub of this at an advanced screening (it doesn't officially release until October this year). I quite enjoyed it. Ken Shimura as the Lorax was really fun, giving him a gruff but lovable old man demeanor. Tortoise Matsumoto was both dorky and rocking as Once-ler. Kouichi Yamadera was hilariously smug and condescending as Mayor O'Hare. I haven't watched the film in English so I can't compare the voice acting, but I look forward to it now.
