Talk about any horror games that you liked, or scared you, or talk about scary ideas that you think should be made into a horror game.

I've not , played many horror games in my gaming career (not keen on the idea of fear being a form of entertainment), but I have played the three main F.E.A.R games and hugely enjoyed them, finding certain horror devices in the first game to be particularly scary. The player character has a radio, which occasionally cuts out, playing only static cues at certain parts, and the scariest parts of the game are delivered in these moments. The player is pre-emptively alerted to what is coming, having just an idea, this sense of expectation makes it al the more scary. Knowing when something dreadful will happen before it happens, without knowing the specifics, can have a bigger effect on the players mind.

While not actually a horror game per se, Thief: Deadly Shadows has scared me more than any game combined. It has one level set in a possessed orphanage/mental institute.

Quite possibly why I'm shit scared of moths.

I think that the horribly disfigured stuff jumping out of the dark is over done.

There was this one game, I can't remember this game, where the whole thing was set in this old mansion. There were creatures in it and as the main char got more and more scared the screen would lose color and if you allowed the screen to become completely black/white you would lose control of the char as she ran blindly through the mansion.

I found it endearingly frustrating.

I don't think it's over done. I think that half the time it's not done effectively.

I think I might know what game you're referring to, but I can't say for sure. You might need to be a bit more specific.

I like to call myself intelligent, but observant might be a better word.

It's just that I've played so many that I think to myself there's going to be a creature HERE and 97% of the time I'm right.

Virtually at least I live in a world of no surprises and it seriously detracts from my horror game enjoyment.

I pretty much prefer for something to be there instead of the game teasing me with nothing.

I DO agree with you. I'm just saying the surprise is half the fun, and if I can see it coming it spoils it.

Some of my favorite parts is when shit falls from the cieling and you fire or attack and it's nothing. If a game can make you do that, it's doing something right.

That sounds a lot like Amnesia: The Dark Decent.

I'm a complete horror junkie, I've played a few things.

Actually I think that could be the game I was talking about. I found it on the frustrating side, but I was enjoying the gameplay mechanics.

It does a little, but I don't think it's the game he's referring to. I don't recall the screen going white except when saving, and Daniel either dies or loses consciousness instead of running around inside Brennenburg.

I love horror too.

No the main character was female and she had a dog. Does that help?

Okay. I think the game you're talking about is Rule of Rose.

That's good. I meant to see a walkthrough of it because I couldn't find it in stores, but I stopped early. I should watch it again.
