Luna let out a roar as she descended upon the enemy. Spreading her wings, she let fear and darkness reign down on the enemy, comets of despair affecting enemy morale and destroying those weaklings who could not stand the fear she was pumping into them.

["Of course I don't mind, silly," Pinkie said to Fluttershy giving a cheerful smile. "Spreading smiles is practically my job!"

The pink pony bounced ahead. She stopped when the strange voice started speaking.

"What in the world...?" Rarity started, taken aback.

When the voice stopped the white unicorn nodded. "I suppose we follow it then. To Canterlot, everypony!"]

"Eep!" Fluttershy squeaked in fear cowered behind Rainbow Dash.

"Show yourself, you coward!" Dash yelled into the sky, but there was no response. Despite her bold retort, she feared that it might already be too late.

["The sisters have emerged," someone said.

Scorpan observed from a distance, the attacks of Celestia and Luna flashing far away. His heart felt heavy having to sacrifice so many soldiers just to remove two ponies from battle, but it was all they could do.

"Release the Smooze," he told his aides.

Long tanks were wheeled out, and tubes pumped a thick purple slime down a hill into the battle Celestia and Luna were in, the invaders from other areas suddenly retreating. The purple slime built up, moving as though with a mind of its own, suddenly pouring over the soldiers that were in Celestia's way. Celestia's eyes widened when she saw the purple slime drawing closer, arms and tentacles forming and beckoning to her. One arm snatched a pony, who screamed as color drained from his body, and was quickly engulfed.

"No..." she whispered in horror. She and Luna had sealed the Smooze away with the Elements of Harmony in a dormant volcano far away. Somepony had been mad enough to reactivate it? Anything that it touched that wasn't devoured had all happiness and kindness drained away, leaving wrathful monsters that fought violently over any problem.

"Sister!" she cried. "We must focus all our efforts on halting the Smooze before it reaches Canterlot!"

Immediately the Smooze vomited up balls of itself like a cannon at her. With a ray of sunlight Celestia blasted a deep cut through the liquid surface, but it repaired immediately.

"I am sorry, Princess Celestia," a mare's voice spoke with a sneer, "but we have the Elements of Harmony now! I'll give your precious Twilight Sparkle a chance to take them from me, but I promise she will fail you!"

"That voice—!"

The Smooze lunged for her.

The ponies charged along the road, Spike riding atop Twilight. Twilight was deeply disturbed replaying the voice in her head.

"Spike, that voice, did it sound familiar to you?" she asked him.

"I think so," he answered. "I can't remember for sure, but I think I heard it when I was really young."

"Is there something you're not telling us, Twi?" Applejack asked.

"I think I might know who that voice belongs to," Twilight answered, and pushed herself to run faster.]
