I don't really like any chick flicks but my sisters love them. I genuinely don't understand what's so great about them?

But seriously, it's because they're all psychological. A typical woman watches them because it's an escapism method that invokes a sense of catharsis.

Look at my very first post, and decode it.

They want to see perfect relationships. Then the couple fucks up, and they feel "oh noes, get back together!". Then they do. So the viewer feels happy.

People like different things. I don't understand these sorts of movies at all myself, but for someone it's perfect; I'm willing to accept that without question. By the same token, I don't expect everyone to understand why I like to watch really laughably horribly films.

Though I am a woman I do not watch these kind of films because they bore me to tears. So perhaps I am not the best to give a female prospective on them but what Toutaku said is accurate. Everyone wants someone and the relationships shown in these movies let people imagin what it might be like to have one that works out in the end if not at first. They are all the same though and that is what bugs me. The characters and situations may be differant but under that the course of events never changes.

Pretty much what everyone else said. My sister and mom LOVE watching these movies; probably why they watch drama shows on Lifetime as well. It gives watchers a sense of how it is to be in a relationship, even if it doesn't work out at first. As Apprentise pointed out though, they seem to put in generic archetypes that make it seem bland after a while.
