Glorious Escapism Roleplay

Welcome, everyone. So I have been talking about this for a while, and have told people here about it. Now I feel it’s time for me to give out a bigger and better understanding of this idea I’ve had in mind for a long time.

Important Note: This idea was solely created for fun and fun alone. I don’t intend to have this become a reality because there’s no way such a thing can happen due to copyright claims to have it be an official game, nor do I have any of the technology and/or materials to make it into a fan-game.

Overworld is a crossover RPG, like with Kingdom Hearts with Disney and Final Fantasy characters, and Super Robot Wars with mecha anime series. This is a crossover of various anime series, mostly shonen, but there are other ones included as well. It won’t be featuring mecha series, because Super Robot Wars is already doing that, and it would probably take up too much space.

So let’s get started…

Story

Past: Long ago, there existed a mysterious force which from the very essence of its power created the multi-verse with a central world incasing around it. First came the multi-verse, second came life. On this central world, a group of great and powerful beings known as the Gods came into existence. Afterwards came the rise of mortals, which the Gods took under their wings to govern. For a long time, all was well with the creation of civilization and technology to better the lives of mortals. But then several of the Gods began to change. With all the great achievements and developments through their powers, some of the Gods grew incredibly bored while others grew arrogant. Some even wanted things to run their own way. These Gods began manipulating and toying with mortals across the whole world for their own self-interests. The other Gods didn’t agree with the behaviors of their brothers and sisters, eventually leading to break up of the Heavens. Ten Gods who wanted to keep traditions of governing the mortals became known as the Ethereals, while ten Gods who wanted to do what they wish with the world were known as the Kaisers.

Thus began the Divine War, with the Ethereals and Kaisers clashed with their armies of mortals and monsters. Both sides have delved in cruel atrocities and methods of control that only brought suffering to those that they once govern. But within the final battle, like the roar of a volcano, bright lights erupted from the surface, putting an abrupt end to the war. Streams of energy soared into the Heavens above, tearing open rifts in space and time as the whole world was torn to pieces.

Present: Waking up from unconsciousness, a teenage boy finds himself in an unknown place, completely confused. He wonders what this place is, where did he come from, and how did he get here, but couldn’t remember anything; not his origin, not himself, nothing. Suddenly, a rift opens up underneath him and falls into peaceful settlement called Nostalgia Town. People of the town come to his aid, taking him in to heal his injuries. They try helping him remember but have little success. All that he can possibly remember was a single word: Horakhty, his name.

For a while, Horakhty stayed in the town, helping out the people with stuff and making new friends. But amongst the good time he had, in the back of his mind he felt envious of the townsfolk. He had friends and company, but there was one thing they had that he didn’t; a world to call his own. One night, the town came under attack by a pack of monsters, killing and destroying everything in their path. In reaction, Horakhty’s body emits energy that can harm the monsters. He was able to fight off the monsters, but it was too late to save Nostalgia Town; it was completely destroyed and there was no knowing if anyone survived. After the fall of the leader monster, another rift opened up beneath Horakhty, pulling him back in the place he first started.

He breaks down and cries over how he was unable to protect Nostalgia Town. Soon a series of rifts start to open up again, revealing to Horakhty that there’s a multi-verse of different worlds that are being invaded by monsters. Getting back on his feet, he becomes determine to do anything he can with the powers he possess to save these worlds from these monsters, recover his lost memories, and to hopefully find his home world.

And he’s not alone. He meets the heroes of the many worlds who join him on his journey.

Game Play

The game play I imagined for Overworld plays similar to Super Robot Wars, a turn-based strategy RPG. It will feature a large map called the battlefield and you select a number of party members to send out and control. The fighting is done in animation clips of the characters talking and performing their attacks, sometimes showing close up cut-ins of the characters’ faces, same as in Super Robot Wars. Evading and countering applies to both your units and the enemy units.

Overworld’s game play will also have features similar to Disgaea, with a base to relax at, buy supplies, and being able to travel back and forth between worlds to replay stages.

Terminology

The Worlds: A series of universes that together make up the multi-verse of Overworld. Each world is the world of a particular anime/manga series.

Border Zones: A maze of inter-dimensional space-and-time zones that are like “in-between places” that keep the worlds separate. Horakhty and his friends travel through the Border Zones to get to other worlds, but their enemies are doing the same thing.

Academia: A unique world featuring high school anime/manga series. The entire world is described as the largest city you’ll ever see in your life, with the biggest school for all of its students. This world first appears in Overworld 2 and serves as your base.

The Kaisers: Primary antagonists of Overworld. A group of ten Gods who broke away from the rest of their brothers and sisters, raging war for control over their world before its destruction. No longer satisfied with just one world, they’re campaigning to take over the all of the other worlds for their own self-interests. They’re particularly interested in Horakhty for reasons unknown and are hunting him down.

Forstypes: The main enemies of Overworld. They’re monsters composed of pure magic, created by the Kaisers to be their armies. A pack of them destroyed Nostalgia Town and are now invading the worlds. Their name is a play on the words Force and Types, implying them as a “force of nature” as a whole that comes in many different forms.

Likes: Helping others, friendship

Dislikes: Suffering, the Kaisers

Appearance: Horakhty is a young, feminine boy. Easily mistaken for a girl. His face and eyes are round and his hair is smooth and flows down to his shoulders. Has a slender body. He wears a black unitard that covers his whole body except his arms, a gray vest with three coat-tails at the bottom, a belt around his waists, a pair of shorts, and a pair of boots.

Personality: Horakhty is a friendly and caring person who wants to help people. Because he doesn’t remember anything about himself, he’s sad inside and doubtful of himself. Despite the irony, he does his best to protect the worlds from danger. If his patience is driven to its limit, or if his friends are harmed or threatened, he can be quite scary.

Story: The main character and hero of Overworld. A lost child who has lost his memories and is hunted by the Kaisers. He sets out to save the multi-verse from the Kaisers and recover his origin.

Friends: Astro, Goku, Lucy, Naruto Uzumaki, Ichigo Kurosaki, Usagi Tsukino, Honey Kisaragi, Inuyasha, Edward Elric, Vash

Abilities: Horakhty possesses extraordinarily powerful reality-warping-like abilities. Could the Kaisers be after him because of these powers?

I'll be making more info for this the future, like more character profiles and summaries for the installments. Also, if there's a series you think should be added in here, you can just let me know. But please avoid suggesting mecha series. Super Robot Wars is already doing that.

It was nice reading this.

It really does sound like a fun idea. it's a shame you can't really do much with it.

As for series inclusions, you decided not to include Fate/Stay Night?

Right now there are several series I'm still thinking of whether to include them or not. Fate/Stay Night is one of them, so there's still a chance for it.

I was really impressed with that anime list. Keroro Gunshou, omg thats going to be funny especially mixed with something like Bo bo bo.

There's now an official Fate/Stay Night scenario in Overworld. It would be a combination of Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heavens Feel.
