The critics for Salon.com and the LA Times have liked it along with an assortment of other publications.
The generally low reception does kind of scare me, but I'm still hopeful it will be a decent movie. _________________

Yeah. I've really liked some poorly received films before myself. _________________

As have I. I'm not going to read anything until I've seen it for myself. _________________

Amen to that. It's all opinion, anyway. _________________

Yep. And there are the stray critics who really do seem to like the film for one reason or another, as I pointed out earlier. _________________

So, I have now seen this film.
This was one of the most visually pleasing films I've ever seen. Both in terms of female flesh and in terms of CG marvel. It's really just a feast for the eyes. The fight sequence are wonderfully choreographed and offer some truly visceral action. And the visuals are just plain cool. You have samurai giants, Nazi zombies, massive fire breathing dragons and robot soldiers all in the same film. And everything is further enhanced by impressive usage of some rather killer music. This to me confirmed Zack Snyder's unique talent as a director; there aren't many other directors I can name with such talent to just stun and captivate with action scenes.
but there's more to a film then just action sequences. Yes, it's kind of dumb. Yes, the acting is kind of dull. Yes, the premise is kind of ridiculous. Above all, the base plot is just simple. It serves more or less as a connector between the focal piece action scenes. Certain characters just don't have any development. I loved the lead character Baby Doll and her schoolgirl uniform. I loved Sweet Pea (I have a feeling she won't be loved by a lot of people though), who used the heaviest weapons and wears some armor. I loved Rocket, Sweet Pea's sweet sister, who is just kind of badass. The hot asian girl and the other one just don't have much character to them.
Despite rather glaring flaws, the film actually overall worked somehow. It just demands attention. Parts of it are unsettling. It's one of the most unique films I've seen in a while. I can see why the critics are saying what they are. It's not a critics film. The audience I saw it with was fairly small; just about a third of the massive IMAX theater was sold, but the audience that was there seemed to have enjoyed it (aside from maybe those foolish enough to bring their young children). It will probably be a bomb in the box office. It seems like the sort of film natural to be a cult classic of some sort.
As for how it ultimately reflects on Zack Snyder as an artist, I think it confirms that he is a gifted director, but sadly also proves he isn't quite there as a writer. He certainly has the imagination, he just needs to hone it and work on creating a more complex, compelling narrative with better defined characters. I don't think Christopher Nolan has to worry about the Superman movie he's producing. Snyder will still be a director I follow. _________________

I'm not sure I had seen her in a movie before.
She's really attractive though. And of the young actresses in the film, one of the best. _________________
