[Danni Flores awoke in a daze. The young teen groaned and sat up, wondering where she was. It was misty and cool, the Moon high overhead.

What am I doing here? she wondered, standing up. She was dressed in a white tank-top, jean jacket, and jeans with her trainers, but she didn't remember what she was doing earlier. Looking over, she saw the silver moonlight reflected in a pool of black water. It was quite beautiful. Had she ended up at the Clifford manor somehow? It seemed like something Natalie would have.

"Hello?" she called. "I don't know where I am!"]

Hong Meiling leaned her back against the brick wall next to the Scarlet Devil Manor's front gate. The night air was cool and relaxing. It did bother her that she had to stay outside this late at night. Her friends insisted that night was when Youkai are prone to attack. But she couldn't help it; whenever there wasn't anything to do and no one to talk to, it gets so boring. Boring enough to make her feel drowsy.

Her eyelids were heavy and her head leaned down. She was about to fall asleep on the job(again) when she suddenly woke up from the call of someone voice.

'A lost person?' She thought. Her eyes narrowed as she looked off into the distance. It was good thing she was Youkai, otherwise she wouldn't be able to see well in the dark.

She saw a person not too far away calling out. Her instinct told her to go investigate, but she couldn't abandoned her post; Sakuya would get mad at her.

She raised her hand up and concentrated her qi into her palm. A faint light lit up, hoping it could lead the person towards her.

[Danni noticed a light in the distance. A lantern? she thought. There looked to be someone standing near the light. She jogged forward, hoping it wasn't a trap by the Guiruchong again—they had many horrible tricks once they had hosts.

Moving closer, Danni saw it was a girl holding a ball of light. Her defenses were going up, but she had to be sure the girl was a threat or not.

Getting closer, Danni thought the girl looked a bit odd. She dressed very old fashioned. "Hello?" Danni asked.]

Meiling saw a girl came into clear view. She blinked, not recognizing her as anyone she'd ever saw in Gensokyo; her clothes weren't anything like what everyone else wore.

"Hello," she answered, giving a friendly smile. "You sounded like you were lost when you called earlier."

Meiling slowly nodded. "I see. I guess I can help you then." She pointed her thumb back at the large mansion. "See this building behind me? This is the Scarlet Devil Manor, home of my master, Remilia Scarlet, the Scarlet Devil."

Meiling inspected the unknown girl more, mainly her clothing. "Those are some strange clothes you're wearing."

["'Scarlet Devil Mansion'?" Danni repeated. It had gotten seriously weird.

"I was just thinking your clothes are kinda weird too," Danni said absently. She had never heard of Remilia Scarlet before. Was that a new gangster in town? Atlas City had a Mafia presence, but "Remilia Scarlet" didn't sound like a Mafia boss.]

"Weird?" Meiling rose an eyebrow. "This kind of style is common in Gensokyo."

Unless...

Meiling's eyes widen upon the revelation of who she was talking to. "Could it be? Are you... from the outside world?"

[Outside world? Oh no...

Danni forced a smile. "I don't know what 'Gensokyou' is...So I must be from the outside world then."

Her hands twitched, like she were dribbling a basketball. She was really beginning to wish she had a ball so she could shoot practice shots.]

Meiling could sense that this girl was experiencing shock from what she said. She wasn't that good of a liar. From Meiling understood, humans from the outside world shouldn't even know about Gensokyo's existence.

She walked up to the girl and put her hands on her shoulder. "Hey, hey, calm down. It'll be alright. Why don't you tell me what happened? How did you get here?"

["I don't know..." Danni said, struggling to remember. She hated that the details were lost. She felt so frustrated and helpless. The girl was trying her best though, so Danni was grateful for that.

"If I'm gonna be here a while," Danni said, "then we're gonna have to know each other. I'm Danni Flores, from Atlas City."]

There wasn't much she could do to help Danni at this time of night. She should try to make the girl feel comfortable.

"Nice to meet you, Danni. I'm Hong Meiling, the gate guard of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. You can just call me Meiling; my friends do it."

[Hong Meiling. It sounded like a name Danni would hear in Chinatown.

She smiled. "Nice to meet you, Meiling. So...you probably don't know how to get me back to my world, do you? I'd have to find someone very powerful for that, right?"

Danni thought she might have seen a purple hole in the ground before. Maybe that was she found her way to Gensoukyou? Why would it take her though?]

"Hmm..." Meiling put a finger to her chin. "Let's see... let's see." She tapped her foot repeatedly, trying to think of what she can do. She fumbled about it for a bit, much to her irritation and probably driving Danni's patience.

"Mmm... Oh, I got it!" She announced. "There's a well-known Youkai in Gensokyo who can control borders. It's said that she can go back forth between places. Maybe she can get you back home. Unfortunately, I don't know her, but our local shrine maiden does."

[Danni grinned. "Cool! So I just have to convince the Youkai to return me! Great idea!"

She stopped. "Wait, what if I was brought here for a reason? I think I remember now that I stepped in something purple and I fell in here."]
