I've heard it from multiple people, not just one. I know it doesn't happen to everyone, but it still does happen.

Never heard anything about PS3s breaking down.

The only problem I have with my PS3 is that it freezes if it overheats, but it hasn't been a problem since I bought a little fan which keeps it cool. I still get a little nevious if I've been playing for maybe several hours stright on a hot summer day, but it's been ok so far.

Hmm, mine never does that and I've had it one for a really long time before. Guess it depends a lot on the model though.

PS3 is only a waste if you own an XBox 360 already and live outside of Japan. If not, get the PS3.

Backward compatibility isn't such an important thing in my opinion. My PS2 isn't going anywhere if I really get desperate to play older games.

But yeah, Rabukurafuto has a point. It's kind of a one or the other system thing, as most of the truly big games seem to come out for both system, each system having just a handful of exclusives. PS3 exclusives fit my tastes better, but an FPS fan would probably go the other way.

Having another BluRay player is a bonus too, making importing games easier.

The big library of PlayStation games is fun too.
