I found this book series in Missouri. It's a girl's series about three young girls, Emily Fletcher, Adriane Charday, and Kara Davies. Calm, compassionate Emily just moved to a Maine town with her mother, a vet. Adriane is a sulky Red Indian loner living with her grandmother on a dilapidated nature reserve. Kara is the blonde, popular girl at school and the daughter of the mayor. Emily one night saves a ferret, who turns out to talk and is named Ozymandius. Ozymandius is looking for three girls who can use magic, and Emily and Adriane start immediately. Kara takes a while to join in. They fight hideously deformed mutant animals tainted by evil magic called "Black Fire", and must look for "Avalon", the origin of magic.

This is a cute series with good manga-type illustrations and even a manga-type graphic novel that looks almost indistinguishable from a real manga (except Ozymandius, who looks like a Disney animal). There series is a little like an American take on the magical girl sub-genres.

I think it sounds cute. I like the character designs too. Kind of pie...

I've read the first two books. The only important male character so far is a ferret. It's ripe for yuri I think.

That would be fun.

The graphic novel does appear to have a male rival in it though. I don't know if he is set up as a romantic interest though.
