Here's some that I've written:
I Will not be Lost:
"My God and my faith will soon both be lost,
I cast them away, toward a burning cross,
My sins and my vices will soon join them too,
My crimes and my mistakes I confide in you.
My joy and my pleasure, in you I have found,
Any doubts or questions will soon come around,
My soul and my music, once again are free,
Can’t you see darlin’? You do this to me.
And I…
And I… Will not be lost.
The pain and the struggles will all be worthwhile
No matter the payment, I will make you smile
My friend and my lover, these words are for you
Whatever the problem I know you’ll see me through.
And I…
And I… Will not be lost."
Drinkin' Buddy:
"Well, you’re not my brother
But I’d risk my neck for you
And there ain’t no other
Who’d do that for me, too.
We’ll stay together, now
Till the skies all turn to rust
That bond won’t sever
Till the mountains fall to dust.
And as long as we sit here,
I will
Drink to tomorrow
And the next day
And the next day
Yeah.
And when I lay here dreamin’
I will
Drink to remember
Yesterday
To Yesteryear
Yeah, we’re drinkin’ buddies.
Caught in the past
Yeah, we’re drinkin’ buddies.
Glass after glass
Well, I lost my daughter
The day I lost my wife
It was like a slaughter
The worst day of my life
When they left, I hit the bottle
Hit it pretty fuckin’ hard
I had almost forgot it all
Left me shakin’ like a card
Yeah"
I've always been more of a musical writer than a fiction writer, so there's alot more of this than my fanfic.
Whaddya think? And have you written any yourself? _________________

Not so bad. I mean, probably better than a lot of crap that gets popular these days.
Never written lyrics myself. I enjoy music quite a bit, but I never wrote any songs. _________________

Thanks dude, I'm glad you liked them.
Lyrics mean a lot to me, for some reason.
Got any favourite lyrics? _________________

I like lyrics too. Good lyrics are important.
favorite lyrics? I listen to a lot of stuff. Hard to pick just a few favorite lyrical songs. But these came to mind immediately:
"Love Minus Zero/No Limit" by Bob Dylan
Quote: | My love she speaks like silence
Without ideals or violence
She doesn’t have to say she’s faithful
Yet she’s true, like ice, like fire
People carry roses
Make promises by the hours
My love she laughs like the flowers
Valentines can’t buy her
In the dime stores and bus stations
People talk of situations
Read books, repeat quotations
Draw conclusions on the wall
Some speak of the future
My love she speaks softly
She knows there’s no success like failure
And that failure’s no success at all
The cloak and dagger dangles
Madams light the candles
In ceremonies of the horsemen
Even the pawn must hold a grudge
Statues made of matchsticks
Crumble into one another
My love winks, she does not bother
She knows too much to argue or to judge
The bridge at midnight trembles
The country doctor rambles
Bankers’ nieces seek perfection
Expecting all the gifts that wise men bring
The wind howls like a hammer
The night blows cold and rainy
My love she’s like some raven
At my window with a broken wing |
"Sovay" by Andrew Bird:
Quote: | i was getting ready to be a threat
i was getting set for my accidental suicide
the kind where no one dies, no one looks too surprised
and then you, then you realize that you're riding on the para-success
of a heavy-handed metaphor
and a feeling like you've been here before
cause you've been here before, and you've been here before
then a word washed to shore
then a word washed to shore
then a word washed to shore
sovay, sovay, sovay
all along in the day
i was getting ready to consider my next plan of attack
i think i'm gonna sack the whole board of trustees
all those don quixotes in their b-17's
and i swear this time, yeah this time
they'll blow us back to the seventies
and this time
they're playin Ride of the Valkyries
with no semblance of grace or ease
and they're acting on vagaries, with their violent proclivities
and they're playing ride, playing ride
playing ride, ride, Ride of the Valkyries
sovay, sovay, sovay
all along the day
i was getting ready to threaten to be a threat
instead of thinking about my plan of attack, think about a sack
the whole board of trustees, all those don quixotes in their b-17's
and i swear this time it blows back to the 70's
and this time, they're playin Ride of the Valkyries
with no semblance of grace or ease
now they're acting on vagaries
with their violent proclivities
and they're playin ride
and they're playin ride
playin ride, playin ride, playin ride, playin ride
Ride of the Valkyries
sovay, sovay, sovay, sovay, so |
"Tower of Song" by Leonard Cohen
Quote: | My friends are gone and my hair is grey.
I ache in the places where I used to play.
And I'm crazy for love but I'm not coming on.
I'm just paying my rent every day in the tower of song.
I said to Hank Williams: “How lonely does it get?”
Hank Williams hasn't answered yet,
but I hear him coughing all night long,
a hundred floors above me in the tower of song.
I was born like this, I had no choice.
I was born with the gift of a golden voice,
and twenty-seven angels from the great beyond,
they tied me to this table right here in the tower of song.
So you can stick your little pins in that voodoo doll
- I'm very sorry, baby, doesn't look like me at all.
I'm standing by the window where the light is strong.
They don't let a woman kill you not in the tower of song.
Now you can say that I've grown bitter but of this you may be sure:
The rich have got their channels in the bedrooms of the poor,
and there's a mighty judgement coming, but I may be wrong.
You see, you hear these funny voices in the tower of song.
I see you standing on the other side.
I don't know how the river got so wide.
I loved you, I loved you way back when -
And all the bridges are burning that we might have crossed,
but I feel so close to everything that we lost-
We'll never, we’ll never have to lose it again.
So I bid you farewell, I don't know when I'll be back.
They’re moving us tomorrow to that tower down the track.
But you'll be hearing from me, baby, long after I'm gone.
I'll be speaking to you sweetly from my window in the tower of song.
My friends are gone and my hair is grey.
I ache in the places where I used to play.
And I'm crazy for love but I'm not coming on.
I'm just paying my rent every day in the tower of song. |
"I See a Darkness" by Bonnie "Prince" Billy:
Quote: | well you're my friend
(it's what you told me)
and can you see
(what's inside of me)
many times
we've been out drinking
and many times
we've shared our thoughts
but did you ever, ever notice
the kind of thoughts I got
well you know I have a love
a love for everyone I know
and you know I have a drive
to live I won't let go
but can you see its opposition
comes a-rising up sometimes
that it's dreadful and position
comes blacking in my mind
and that I see a darkness
and that I see a darkness
and that I see a darkness
and that I see a darkness
and did you know how much I love you
is a hope that somehow you you
can save me from this darkness
well I hope that someday, buddy
we have peace in our lives
together or apart
alone or with our wives
that we can stop our whoring
and pull the smiles inside
and light it up forever
and never go to sleep
my best unbeaten brother
this isn't all I see
chorus |

I'd be happy to perform a song or two over the chat.
Singing, I mean, as well as playing. XD _________________

Thanks, India.
And poetry's just musicless lyrics. No less beautiful or powerful. _________________
